Do not be the odd fish and get boiler cover policies

Do not be the odd fish and get boiler cover policies

These days anything from laptops to pets can be covered with insurance cover. There are those insurance policies that are obviously more important than others and some are required by law such as car insurance. Anyone seeking a housing loan has to make an insurance policy for the property so that both the lender’s and borrower’s interests are insured. These types of insurance cover protect the policyholder from losses that could ruin their lives.

Moving a step down the ladder of importance we find gas central heating insurance, such as the products offered by British Gas. These insurances are not as widely used as they should be – for while they are not as necessary as insuring the very structure of a house, the gas central heating system of a home is most definitely a necessity and repairing it can cost a lot. If you do not have this protective cover and in case the system stops working, professional help is often not possible immediately, also it doesn’t sound like a great idea to live without heating for any length of time particularly in cold winters. More worryingly is the prospect of a faulty system leaking carbon monoxide, which can be fatal.

In the market there are a wide range of central heating, boiler and household maintenance plans. Basic plans will cover annual servicing, safety checks and other minimum requirements. Spare parts and repair work are usually not included in these basic plans as inclusion will increase the costs. But anyone taking out one of these plans, unless their central heating boiler is still under warranty, only has to pay a small amount more per month to upgrade to a policy that covers repairs and spare parts. This extra money each month is well spent when a central heating boiler is getting close to the end of its working life. At this step customers have two choices, whether they want just their boiler covered or do they want to extend their cover to other things like radiators, the central heating system and elements of the heating controls and central heating pump.

Watch out for small print before you choose a new policy as there may be limits or exemptions written into the policy. The insurance provider may set a ceiling cost for all repairs and spare parts within a year, or fix a restriction on how many house calls they will entertain. As with all types of insurance, don’t just choose the cheapest premium without making sure the level of cover is adequate.
