Do you understand the different variants of central heating system gas boilers

There are many different types of gas Central Heating Systems available to you. A central heating boiler, central heating radiator and pipework are common components in many of these Central Heating Systems, they are simple in plumbing terms.

In most parts of the United Kingdom air conditioning is hardly required because of the average temperatures of those regions. In fact, a decent heating system is a necessity in these regions, and due to this, a majority of new houses have a Central Heating system.

With wintertime coming up round the corner heating should be at the front of your mind. A heated home has a comfortable and enjoyable feel to it. This security in winter is possible only if your Gas Central Heating System is foolproof, well maintained and functioning efficiently. It should be durable, easy to use and completely safe.

Vented (or pumped) and Sealed heating systems are the two most common types available.

Pumped or vented Gas Central Heating systems are most popularly used. An expansion tank is present in a pumped heating system. The hot water tank performs two functions; firstly, supply hot water to your house, and secondly, provides heat to the heating radiators. The expansion tank has enough space to allow for the expanding of water as a result of heating. A pumped/vented heating system requires that the tank be installed at the highest level within the house – such as an attic or loft space, certainly on the top floor. It performs dual functions by providing hot water and heating up the house.

Older homes generally have pumped/vented Central Heating systems.

A slightly newer gas boiler is sealed heating system and this is the preferred heating system in newer properties. No water tanks are needed for a Sealed system as it is a completely closed setup saving space. This unvented system eliminates water tanks and attic plumbing, thus giving a number of advantages.

- As there are no pipes, they cannot freeze up in the attic.

- No maintenance work on the tank or pipes that would be in the attic in a pumped/vented system.

- The risk of leaks is decreased.

- Unlike pumped/vented systems, air is not drawn through open vents so the possibility of airlocks, corroding and sludge is much lower.

- If necessary, the system can be flushed out under pressure using the main water supply.

Such a Sealed Gas Central Heating System is installed with all the required gauges, controls and safeguards. The water for the system is provided directly from the main water pipe of the house. The pressure of the main water supply benefits the hot water outlets and gives a healthy shower.

A pressure vessel containing compressed gas, which is kept separate from the sealed system by a diaphragm, is used to allow any pressure variations. The safety valve opens up when the pressure in the system rises so that water can escape through it, on the other hand it opens up when the pressure drops down so that the water can refill the system.

Overall Central Heating Systems offer more value for money as equated to alternative heating systems as they can be very efficient. They offer you a lot more control of your home environment than the other heating systems.
